DANSIS Award

If you have produced a thesis that is related to a topic within the fields of fluid mechanics, then you now have the opportunity of making money from it.
DANSIS would like to reward you for your efforts by offering you the chance to win the annual ‘Best Fluid Mechanics Thesis Award’. The prize is 15,000 Kr.

The award is given to a person or group of persons who, in an one year period up to 31st July, have submitted a completed thesis for review to a Danish institute of further education. The work’s content must primarily be focused upon a topic within fluid mechanics or one closely related. It can be experimentally, theoretically or numerically based, or a combination.

The DANSIS committee will judge the received theses and contact the winner directly. A short presentation (max 10 mins) of the winning project will be expected to be given by the recipient at the October DANSIS Seminar, where the prize will be presented.

The following requirements are made of the participants:

  •  The student/s need to be enrolled in a Danish institute of further education
  • The thesis must have been completed in a one year period up to 31st July
  • The thesis must be sent into DANSIS by 1st August at the latest
  • The thesis must have significant fluid mechanics content

Among five strong nominated projects within the field of applied industrial fluid dynamics, it was master student Marcin Piotr Serdeczny who won the prestigious DANSIS graduate award for the best MS thesis project: "Infusion Flow in Composites Processes"

On October 4th 2017, Marcin Piotr Serdeczny, former Master student at DTU Wind Energy recieved the DANSIS Award. 

The Master thesis handed in by Marcin Serdeczny was compared to four other strong nominated projects within the field of applied industrial fluid dynamics. Assoc. Prof. Knud Erik Meyer alongside the award committee selected Marcin Serdecznys thesis as the best project.

Knud E. Meyer describes the choice of Marcin Serdecznys master:

“The novelty, complex nature of the combined experimental and numerical modeling made the project the strongest.”

About the project

The project, suggested by Allan Gersborg from LM Wind Power, included experimental investigation of the distributed pressure development in a composite stack during vacuum infusion process.

Furthermore, the experiment was modelled numerically including the non-linear evolution of the process, although characterized as a laminar low Reynolds number type of flow.

“Precise modelling is essential of these types of flows for a company like LM Wind Power” says Allan “in order to make competitive wind turbine blades both in terms of quality and cycle time”. 

Since his Master defense, Marcin Serdeczny has started his PhD study involving thermofluid mechanics of 3D printing processes at DTU Mechanical Engineering.
