Research in manufacturing engineering

Research groups:

Manufacturing is an important part of the Danish economy. The manufacturing industry is responsible for approximately 45 per cent of Danish exports. The Section for Manufacturing Engineering performs theoretical, numerical and experimental research in the field of manufacturing engineering. It covers a wide range of manufacturing processes and modeling approaches, metrology at all scales, micro/nano manufacturing, and additive manufacturing.

Research is based on a multi-disciplinary use of process technology, materials science, solid and fluid mechanics, and thermodynamics in the analysis, modeling and development of manufacturing processes. The research objective of the section is to promote ‘Precision Manufacturing’ to meet the performance, durability, reliability, size, and cost requirements of modern products. Precision manufacturing is characterized by parts within tight tolerances and specific functional properties, often made in advanced materials with specific properties.
