DTU Mechanical Engineering is looking for a postdoc in the field of thermodynamic design and analysis of biomass based energy conversion systems with focus on biofuel production systems.

The postdoc will be employed at the section of Thermal Energy and will collaborate with other researchers within the field. The section of Thermal Energy conducts research within refrigeration, heat pumps, power cycles, combustion engines, hydrogen and fuel cells as well as biomass based energy conversion systems.

Responsibilities and tasks
The candidate will conduct scientific research in projects together with industrial and academic partners in the field of biofuel production. The research should be at international level and should be published in relevant journals and conferences.

The work will include: 

  • Building thermodynamic models and simulation of integrated systems combining e.g. biomass gasification, pyrolysis, solid oxide cells and catalytic reactors. The aim is to analyse systems based on primarily energy, exergy and cost.
  • Supporting related experimental work in the research projects by e.g. assisting in the dimensioning of components.
  • Adjusting the numerical models based on experimental data obtained by colleagues in the projects.

Qualifications
Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent. The candidate should have a background in the field of applied engineering thermodynamics with an interest in the development of the future fossil free energy system.

Further qualifications:  

  • Experience in numerical modelling of thermal energy systems
  • Self-motivation in scientific research
  • Ability to work independently, to plan and carry out complicated tasks
  • Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken
  • Good communication skills in Danish, both written and spoken, are preferable.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union. The period of employment is 2 years.
