Dr. Kim Carneiro, senior adviser at DTU Mechanical Engineering and former CEO of DFM, The Danish National Metrology Institute, was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award of the European Society for Precision Engineering and Nanotechnology (euspen) during its annually general assembly last week in Hannover.

Euspen’s mission is to advance the arts, sciences and technology of precision engineering, micro engineering and nanotechnology; to promote its dissemination through education and training; and to facilitate its exploitation by science and industry. The prize is awarded in irregular intervals to scientists that particularly pursue the aims of the organization during their career.

Kim Carneiro has had a long and influential career in the area of metrology. He holds a M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering and Physics and a Ph.D. in Physics. He started out as an associate professor at Copenhagen University, and then he established the Danish National Metrology Institute (DFM) of which he was the CEO for 23 years. Kim was one of the founders of euspen in 1998, and he served as president of euspen 2001-2003. He was the organizer of the euspen challenge 2013 in Denmark and he has served as member of the scientific committee of euspen since 1998.

Euspen president Dr. Harald Bosse (PTB) stated during his laudatory speech: “Kim Carneiro has played a major role in the metrology community as one of the founders of EURAMET and as active member of International Committee for Weights and Measures (CIPM) and as advisor to the European Commission. He is a truly worthy recipient of the euspen Lifetime Achievement Award 2017”.
